ON PRODUCING CRUSHING IT: The Audience has Spoken

The audience didn’t leap panic-stricken from their computer screens and smart phones.

They stuck around and played with the story. And that’s what we wanted them to do.

In this funny, sudsy romp called “Crushing It”, the week began with, “Who will hook up? Who will be left alone? You decide.”

ON PRODUCING "CRUSHING IT": The Future of Storytelling

“Crushing It” has gone live today! Pop the Champaign and pass the party hats. Or maybe I’ll just have another coffee.

Producing this project hasn’t all been about schedules, contracts, and content elements. “Crushing It’ has inspired my thoughts to more philosophical things; such as creating a new storytelling language. It reminds me of another storytelling language and how it evolved.

ON PRODUCING "CRUSHING IT": Working Virtually

The Internet and social media is factoring into every facet of this project. No surprise there.

With a team of writers, actors, and media professionals located in Toronto (Canada), New York City (U.S.A.) and London (U.K.), the office is a virtual thing. We’ve been holding our meetings on Skype, coordinating and collaborating by way of online tools, and of course, email is our old friend.

ON PRODUCING "CRUSHING IT": Tell Two Friends and so on ...

Detail number 542: promote the show.

We don’t have the budget for a Hollywood-style all-media blitz campaign that reaches every page, every screen, and every bus shelter. Nor is that necessarily the right approach for this project. At the other extreme, we don’t want CRUSHING IT to be in the media witness protection program. So we’re taking a number of approaches.

Social Media At Its Best

For me the most remarkable thing about the whole Crushing It experience is how much has been generated from a single blog post

On January 5th, 2010, I posted an idea on blog about a story to be told live during social media week and calling for collaborators.  I am amazed at how many people have responded.  I know some of them, but some are new to me.  Their generousity, talent and commitment to this project is incredible.

ON PRODUCING "CRUSHING IT": The Beginning by Cathleen MacDonald

For me, it started appropriately enough with a friend’s post on my Facebook wall feed.

“Check out this chance to be involved with a very exciting story telling project! We need writers, actors, organizers ...”

Organizers? Hmmm. So I emailed Jill Golick, the visionary behind this project.

Back came the reply, “I need a producer.”
